Definition
A halo setting features a circle (or shape-matching border) of small accent diamonds surrounding the center stone. This frame of melee diamonds can increase the apparent diameter of the center stone by 0.25–0.50 carats. Double halos add a second ring of stones for even more impact. The halo concept can be applied to virtually any center stone shape.
Why It Matters for Ring Design
Halos are one of the most cost-effective ways to create a larger-looking ring. A 0.75-carat center stone in a halo can appear as large as a 1.25-carat solitaire. This makes halos particularly appealing for clients with a specific size goal but a limited budget.
