A conflict-free diamond is one that has been sourced, cut, and polished without funding armed conflict or human rights abuses. The Kimberley Process Certification Scheme (KPCS), established in 2003, requires participating countries to certify that diamond shipments are conflict-free. Beyond the Kimberley Process, many retailers now offer enhanced traceability through blockchain tracking, mine-to-market provenance, and third-party ethical certifications.
